ABOUT THE PRESENTER

Mr. Brister has spent the majority of his 40-year career in energy operations. Starting out as a contract electrical/instrumentation technician, then operations and maintenance in upstream oil and gas operations. After a co-worker died in his hands in a plant explosion, he’s focused on the safety, training and competency of operational leaders and workers. He finished his career at BP as one of their global technical authorities on their training and competency program. In 2014, he started Shea Capability & Compliance Solutions to address the safety, technical, and leadership competencies needed for our “Next Generation” operations workforce. Having worked in the energy industry, he has firsthand experience around process equipment and operations. He believes strongly in the competency development of our next generation workforce to mitigate risk exposure to workers. Mr. Brister and Heinz Bloch co-authored an article on the “Case for Competence” which was published in Hydrocarbon Processing.
